STANLEY'S FORUM IS RUMMING!

Greetings!

Just a short note to inform you guys that our forum is in its beta testing stage now, expected to co-launch officially with the blog on our 28th birthday bash not long from now. There're still some settings to be configured and other aesthetic issues to be taken care off, but nevertheless it’s in a decent working condition.

Note:
- Please make use of a more easily identifiable username and update the "Batch Of" field in your profile so that both the adminstrator and forum users can easily identify who you are.
- Once you’ve successfully registered an account, please send a private message (PM) to the administrator to confirm your identity (ie name, post and batch) to upgrade your status to Certified VIAVB Prefect.
- Being a Certified VIAVB Prefect will grant you access to “hidden” forums that have been locked for security purposes.
- All discussions concerning VIAVB’s internal affairs are strongly encouraged to be made in the “Board Members & Exes” forum, which can be accessed only by Certified VIAVB Prefects. Please do not bring up any VIAVB internal issues in public forums as it should be left to where it belongs: internal.

LETTER FROM ARGENTINA

Now where do I start? It has been such a long time since I’d don the Victorian badge, and simultaneously be a part of the members in the little room with a little door that had an A4 size badge on it, with the words “V.I.A.V.B. Prefect.” I always thought about my days in the room, the memorable moments there with my fellow APDIAN buddies. I would reminisce the things that we did together like cracking up jokes, playing Worms Armageddon with Cheng Yan’s Nokia N-Gage, constantly competing for the title of “The Best Ping-pong Player of APD” with abang Anan and Bryan, playing soccer with Ratheesh, watching ‘movies’ in the neighboring hall (with several abangs and one always in particular, ‘ahem’), * classes with Jeffrey etc.

I have had many good memories of APD, but there were some unpleasant moments as well. I remember how we would have to work every time the school needed the PA system which may be any time including after school at night. The problem wasn’t so much about taking my time, but it was the need to carry the equipments which weighed a TON and I had to walk back and forth from the room to the venue several times just to get all of the equipments and later place them back after the occasion was over. These moments were usually frustrating and very scary if the occasion happened at night, but I was able to put up with it most of the time when I had company to pass time with and help me out. Duties on weekends also sucked. I mean, who wouldn’t like to sleep in during their weekends, or do something that they like. The worst part of it was that duties on weekends were usually solo, and that was why I hated it.

There were also other unpleasant times like when I was lectured by the abangs about my attitude towards them or my incompetence to satisfy a duty. Other times, I was ordered around to buy things for them. The most annoying times were when I was * for mistakes. *could be from * - which there will never ever be another abang that would* that little except for abang Wing Hong - to as much as the abang wants. But my abangs were never horrible enough to * too much, just only enough to *that’s all. (note: * wordings currently under auto-censory until security features are finalized)

When my last days at VI were coming to an end and I was soon to part ways with the club and school, I never did much that I would call a satisfactory departure. I was never able to properly say goodbye to all of my good APD buddies that I have accomplished so much with. The fact that I never put in too much effort to bid farewell to them was because APD was in quite a ruckus with the members leaving. With my year alone, none decided to stay. As for the abangs, one moved to another school, and another left for the prefect post. Only recently have I been told that there was a member that did not actually leave the club. I was glad but I wasn’t surprised at all because I have always looked up to that member for his remarkable spirit in the club. He always demonstrated good examples to our batch and even sometimes to the abangs. I don’t know too much about him now, but Cheng Yan was definitely THE MAN back then!

I hope that the new board members would appreciate more of your good fortune to be a part of APD. There is so much to learn from it and APD has had such a good history so far. So live up to its expectations and raise its fame even more. Even though it was a short time, I am glad to have been a part of APD because many abangs especially Stanley, Wing Hong, Adrian and Joshua have shown me the right paths through their actions for achieving the P.O.D.I.U.S. Good luck to the new members as this is just only the beginning of your long, but worthy journey with many capable members both present and past to guide and assist you.

APDIAN'S ECHO

This is the first enquiry we received and it is from Exco Lee Cheng Yan as engaged by Exco Low Jun Fay; former viavb vice president, rukun negara president and the school assistant head prefect. It is for us a greater impression than Jun Fay to us; as he not only went back to his alma mater (he is studying dentistry in east malaysia) and shared an advice with Cheng Yan; he also took the effort of sending the first email response to viavrcb@gmail.com. His proactive initiatives are undeniably commendable, a true Victorian for all board members to emulate.

Exco Low Jun Fay came to APD office yesterday which is on 15/8/08. He said we should use this blog to share the ideas for the upcoming board of EXCOS to lead the board. As you all know, the boards and society in VI are "going down" in a sense of "natural phenomena of quitting" in the school. So what are your ideas to make some changes in APD to prevent this phenomena happens? Please comment, thanks.

We shall repeat verbatim Jun Fay's last few words in his email:
hopefully, through this site,everyone can channel their ideas and opinions positively to raise the board even higher.there IS alot to improve.let not the blues fade away.

My batch would like to thank all of you; be it past or present members for your tremendous support by spreading the word of mouth, commenting in blog post, giving suggestions, by having this link in various social networking sites, forwarding emails and even displaying this in msn personal message; as this site could not possibly function without genuine support from all of you.

To past and present board members Jia Hun, Kok Chin, Jiun Kei, Cheng Yan, Foong Sze, Yie Der and Jun Fay; all credits to you all.

We could expect more participations and contributions from board members especially newer members in the form of email postings, events reporting and opinions sharing to complement the upcoming features in this blog and forum in the near future.

FOUNDING FOREWORD OF AN APDIAN

Dear AVB Prefects,

I must confess it has been an honour to be among the alumni with all of you- my second brothers and sisters- who are of course second to none. To be writing this post itself, i must extend my deepest gratitude and tons of thank you to all of my seniors (Darren, Kuhan and Lee batches) who are my teachers in school uniform, all my friends who fought along with me all these years; never once letting go and to all my juniors who have been supportive, co-operative and understanding despite not yet being able to understand the reason behind why APD is our first priority at the first place; though these days dont last very long, dont they?

At the ending months of form 1, Anan and i were recruited by a senior who walked into our class 2J bearing the nametag 'Jiun Kei'. Honestly, we have no clue what all these are about- to simplify, question marks like: What on earth is APD? mics they said? Lembaga? anything different from clubs, isnt it reserved for something bigger like Lembaga Perusahaan (in case you are trying to act big), or is it just another Disney's Green Monster? were running around our heads. Nevertheless; being sporting and innocently invited (layman language is 'tricked') ; we attended the interview where we initally waited in a room filled with others (mostly RC members....you know better).

Interview came with rules and meeting the then 'Big Guys' kept us wondering why they look more like well- built, mature, professional adults than jinjang, ineloquent, unconfident, rebellious teenagers- maybe that's why they are named the EXCOs. Santa Claus's story cut short- we passed the interview with flying colours (ahem) and started the infobook and trainings. There are many of us at the early stages but in the very end, there are not many of us- not to say that it's only about the survival of the fittest- instead it's the survival of the faithful; those who pesevere, not leaving their friends alone, coming every morning timing in with a mentality of kaizen, learning not fretting, to contribute and suggest to improve and uphold the board not to complain to gain sympathy, look pathetic and give up the board and school at large, communicate to strengthen the surreal interbatch unity and cherish the camaderie of the members before finally giving back by leading the board transformation to the better.

Because those are probably the most testing days, those are simultaneously the most treasurable days. There is only so much you can give to a board that give so much to you. After approximately four years, i believe my best pals- Stan, Adrian and Anan would agree it felt like a long breath held for four years before letting go. The immense satisfaction and meaning is way indescribable and too august to be put in words. We came as at best textbook kids but then waking one morning (as remarked by those who missed school) realizing today will never ever be the same.....all because of one membership form we signed.

The instruction be not all, nor the school just roof and wall. We are not so idiot staying back late in soccer fields and coming back just to see the band when we could be enjoying Starbucks' cappucino if not because of the one difference in us....the Victorian spirit where the blue blooded believes.
